Healthcare Career Program Overview

The health care industry is projected to grow faster than other industries in the coming years. CSI, with campuses in Chicago, Elgin, and Gurnee offers Healthcare Career Programs in both clinical and administrative tracks. CSI's Health care clinical track prepares students for the EKG Technician and Phlebotomy Technician Certification and choice of either the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or *AMT'S RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification for entry-level positions as a medical assistant in a physician's office or clinic. The administrative track prepares students for NHA, CMAA and CBCS or AHIMA CCA certification for entry-level positions in the clinical or administrative health care fields.

Clinical Track Medical Assistant

Certification/Diploma

Becoming a medical assistant, and join a rapidly expanding segment of the health care work force. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting is one of the fastest growing professions.

This clinical track's purpose is to prepare you for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification, the EKG Technician Certification (CET) and choice of either the CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) or *AMT'S RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification for entry-level positions as a medical assistant in the administrative office, the examining room and the physician office laboratory.

Your training will focus on examining room procedures, obtaining vital signs and medical histories, performing routine laboratory procedures, sterilizing and maintaining equipment, and the proper techniques for administering medications as directed by the physician. Your training also includes execution of administrative duties.

Administrative Track

Certification/Diploma

This challenging, field offers career flexibility in a variety of workplace options. Presently, opportunities are in numerous areas including hospitals, doctor's offices, rehabilitation centers, insurance providers, clearinghouses, physicians' billing services, home health care and long-term care facilities.

This administrative track's purpose is to prepare you for the National Healthcareer Association's CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) and choice of either the NHA CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist) or AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) CCA (Certified Coding Associate) certifications for entry-level positions in either the administrative or billing / coding health care fields. Success in either field may lead to many management opportunities.

Your training focuses on administrative skills, medical terminology & physiology, leading to four months of intensive coding classes and finishing with Medical Insurance and Reimbursement procedure studies.

Please note: Students may only choose either the clinical track or administrative track but not a combination of both tracks within the Health Care career Program. *Clinical students must complete a 160 hour post graduate externship within 90 days of graduation to be eligible to apply for the RMA certification exam. Some course programs may not be available at all campus locations.
